From Runoff to Reinforced

Owning waterfront property comes with incredible views and access to the water—but it also comes with the responsibility of maintaining your shoreline. Recently, we helped a homeowner who was dealing with a serious drainage issue that was beginning to cause long-term damage to their property.

Stormwater runoff was flowing toward the shoreline, undermining the concrete border and slowly washing the beach sand into the pond. Over time, this kind of erosion can lead to bigger structural problems and loss of shoreline, so it was important to address the issue before it got worse.

To solve the problem, we first dug a ditch to redirect the water away from the area. Proper drainage is key when it comes to protecting waterfront properties, and creating a path for the water to move safely away from the shoreline helps prevent further erosion.

As an added layer of protection, we installed 4-inch rip rap along the shoreline. Rip rap is a highly effective erosion control method because the rocks help break up the force of moving water. Instead of water washing soil and sand away, the rocks absorb the impact and stabilize the shoreline.

Beyond the functional benefits, rip rap also gives the shoreline a clean, well-maintained appearance that blends naturally with the landscape.

For waterfront property owners, erosion is one of the biggest long-term threats to both the beauty and stability of their land. Installing proper drainage and protective rock can make a huge difference in preserving your shoreline for years to come.

In this case, the combination of redirecting water flow and adding rip rap helped stop the erosion, protect the shoreline, and restore the look of the property. It’s a simple solution that makes a big impact when it comes to protecting waterfront land.
